Planet Goalie Analysis:Available at Planet Goalie for the fall of 2011 is the Brian's Sub-Zero goalie line. Brian's has taken the art of making lightweight, pro level goalie gear to a new level with the Sub-Zero line-up. Style, performance and weight are balanced perfectly to make this the most anticipated and most revolutionary gear of 2011 and 2012.
The Brians Sub-Zero Pro Blocker is the lightest blocker on the goalie market today. The great thing about Brians is they do not sacrifice any quality to obtain a lighter product. The Brian's Sub-Zero blocker has bindingless face gives the blocker a very clean look and also increases surface area - every little extra can be the difference in a save or a goal. The side of the Brian's Sub-Zero blocker provides the maximum allowed blocking area. This is very important for a goalie in the butterfly position because in many instances, the blocker hand turns over and the inside portion of the blocker makes the save. The mesh finger gussets are extremely comfortable. This is also important because the leather finger gusset after time become hard, crusty and very uncomfortable. With the mesh finger gussets, this does not happen.
The goalies at Planet Goalie will often joke and say a "blocker is just a blocker" - meaning that all blockers are all basically the same. However this is not the case and a ill fitting blocker will negatively effect the balance of the goalie and will cause severe stick handling issues. With the emphasis on goalies to be better stick handlers, the blocker will be the most important factor in stick handling.
A tip from Planet Goalie - since goalie training is becoming more and more advanced, little things like being a good stick handler may be the difference in what goalie may be choosen at a tryout. Make sure you have the proper blocker and glove to maximize your stick handling abilities.
